Adam Gontier, lead singer of Three Days Grace, has left the band. Before you think it's drama-related, Gontier is actually leaving because of an unreported health issue. Before people jump to conclusions, here are some things that should be noted:
1) Undisclosed health issues can either be serious or adaptable. If you're a fan of Three Days Grace, or just rock music in general, think positive thoughts for Adam and hope that nothing too serious is underway. This is a very unusual thing to happen right before a tour and after a big selling album.
2) Gontier's place will be taken by My Darkest Days frontman Matt Walst (brother to Three Days Grace's bassist Brad), at least just for this upcoming tour. I respect the remainder of the band wanting to commit to finishing their tour. I deem that classy.
Here's the statement from Brad Walst via www.ThreeDaysGrace.com :
"We were surprised and distressed by Adam's sudden departure. We are however very excited for this upcoming tour, and to have my brother Matt stepping in as lead singer."
3) There is also a statement from Adam Gontier, which is equally classy:
His statement reads, "It is important for me to address any concerns regarding my health being connected to drugs or addiction. The truth is, when I was struggling during that dark time in my life, I hit rock bottom, and I had the kindest of people reach out from all over the world, and reach their hands out to help pick me up... The truth is, and I'm very proud to say this... I am sober. That chapter in my life is over.
"There have been many defining moments in my life. My time as part of Three Days Grace is most definitely one of the miraculous ones. (But) after twenty years of being part of an ever evolving band, I have been inspired by life to move on and to continue to evolve on my own terms."
4) There's already audio of Matt rehearsing with the band. Samples found below and more can be found HERE.
