DOUCHE OF THE DAY: Lindsay Lohan Fires Her Attorney

Because if getting Lindsay out of jail for the last two years wasn’t enough for Lindsay, there she goes trying to get out of a bigger situation. Lindsay Lohan has fired her long-time attorney Shawn Holley in favor of big shot New York guy Mark Heller to defend her against recent charges of assault, reports TMZ. Holley is the one who kept Lohan out of jail following her jewelry thief charges, as well as representing her throughout her numerous DUIs and probation violations and house arrests. Sources allegedly told the gossip site that Heller is considered by other New York attorneys to be a "menace to the public." Lohan, meanwhile, has been in the news for her erratic behavior while on set for "The Canyons," the movie adaptation of the Bret Easton Ellis book. She was caught on tape ripping co-star James Deen a new one, and was profiled in the New York Times acting bizarre. UPDATE 3:50 LiLo is apparently saying that she had nothing to do with the firing of Holley, despite the fact that her signature appears on a letter to Holley in which she is fired. [LAist]

Boy, 12, Convicted in Murder of Neo-Nazi Father

A judge found true on Monday that a 12-year-old boy committed second-degree murder when he shot and killed his white supremacist father. 32-year-old Jeff Hall, a regional leader of the National Socialist Movement, was shot at point-blank range with a .357 Magnum while he slept on the couch in May 2011. His son, who was 10 at the time, confessed to the murder on videotape. Prosecutors argued that the boy shot his father to keep him from leaving his step-mother. They said that the boy’s violent tendencies went back to kindergarten, when he stabbed a teacher with a pencil. The prosecution’s case was bolstered by the boy’s younger sister, who testified that he told her he was planning to shoot Hall days in advance. The defense maintained that the boy grew up in an emotionally and physically abusive environment, where he learned that violence and killing were acceptable. Riverside Superior Court Judge Jean Leonard had to determine whether the boy knew what he was doing and if it was premeditated. In juvenile court, there is not a “guilty” or “not guilty,” but instead findings of “true” or “not true.” Sentencing in the case is scheduled for February 15. The boy, who was tried as a juvenile, faces up to 11 years in juvenile detention. His attorney says he plans to appeal. [KTLA]

New Safety Measures Go into Effect at USC

usc-security

Starting Monday, new safety measures created after a shooting on Halloween are going into effect at USC, restricting late-night access to the campus. Students, staff and faculty members will now have to show a photo ID in order to enter the school between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. New pedestrian gates are also being installed on the campus, and they will be closed during those hours. Late-night guests will have to be registered online by a student or employee, and mus present a government-issued ID. Guards will be staffed around-the-clock at residence halls to check identification and enforce the registration rules. The new security measures mark the first time in USC’s modern history that the university is restricting access to pedestrians. Back in October, four people were injured outside a Halloween party on the USC campus when an alleged gang member opened fire. None of those involved were students. One of the victims was former Crenshaw High School football standout Geno Hall. Six months earlier, two graduate students from China were fatally shot in a botched robbery that happened just blocks from campus. [KTLA]

William and Catherine’s Baby Due in July

Britain’s royal family are looking forward to a summer surprise: The Duchess of Cambridge and Prince William’s baby is due in July, the couple has announced. “Their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to confirm they are expecting a baby in July,” St. James’s Palace said in a statement Monday. The couple was forced to reveal Catherine’s pregnancy earlier than planned last month when she was hospitalized for several days suffering from acute morning sickness, or hyperemesis gravidarum. News of the expected baby sent royal watchers and the UK media into a frenzy of speculation about due dates, whether the eagerly-awaited child is a boy or a girl, and what he or she will look like. The duchess’s illness has forced her to pull out of several public events in recent weeks, but she was at London’s National Portrait Gallery on Friday for the unveiling of her first official portrait. On Monday, St. James’s Palace said “the duchess’s condition continues to improve since her stay in hospital.” [KTLA]
