NEW MUSIC DISCOVERY: Haim "Forever"

Haim is composed of three sisters Este, Danielle, and Alana Haim - from Los Angeles, who according to Wikipedia, describe their sound as “nu-folk-meets-90s-R&B” and we are not mad at that at all. Earlier this year they released a three song EP titled Forever and have  garnered a HUGE buzz ever since, even being named one of the most shazamed artists of the year! They’ve played shows for Julian Casablancas, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Mumford & Sons, and is booked to open for Florence and the Machine in their UK and Ireland tour this month. DOUCHE OF THE DAY: Cushing man gets jail for striking estranged wife with genitalia

A 62-year-old Cushing man will spend five days in jail after pleading guilty Wednesday to assaulting his estranged wife. Fred E. Thomas pleaded guilty to 180 days in jail with all but five days suspended and was placed on probation for a year for domestic violence assault and indecent conduct. A third charge of unlawful sexual contact was dismissed. The incident occurred in July in Warren when his wife of 39 years, who was estranged from him, stayed at his place. He offered her $20 for sex, and when she refused he took out his penis and struck her with it, according to the prosecution’s version of events to which he pleaded guilty. Defense Attorney Justin Andrus said Thomas was tremendously upset that his marriage of 39 years was ending. He said his estranged wife was planning to go to Pakistan to meet a man she met online “This was not his normal conduct,” Andrus told Justice Jeffrey Hjelm during the sentencing hearing in Knox County Superior Court. Assistant District Attorney Christopher Fernald asked for Thomas to serve seven days in jail while Andrus asked for just probation and no jail time. Hjelm said a jail term was appropriate in this case. “This was sexually aggressive conduct. This couldn’t be much more offensive,” Hjelm said. The wife did not seek jail time for Thomas but did ask that he undergo counseling for anger management, which was ordered.

EW! Georgia Woman Says She Found Nose Ring in McDonalds Breakfast Burrito

A Georgia woman is demanding answers after she claimed to have found a nose ring in her four-year-old daughter's breakfast burrito from McDonald's. Frances Rosario of Lawrenceville, says she visited a local McDonald's on Wednesday morning and ordered two burritos. When she returned home and opened the burritos, she noticed something wasn't quite right with her daughter's meal. Rosario says she immediately called the McDonald's to report what happened, but she claims they told her "it happens.” She then tried to contact the corporate headquarters but says they have not returned her calls. The owner of the McDonald's in question put out a statement saying they are investigating the incident. “It Happens”?! What the hell! [KTLA]

Enrique Pena Nieto Sworn in as President of Mexico

Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto was sworn in before Congress on Saturday, after he assumed control of the armed forces and national security in a symbolic ceremony held earlier.In a ceremony lasting about five minutes, Calderon received the national flag from a military school cadet and immediately handed it to Peña Nieto. The act symbolized the transfer of command of the security forces. Although, Just outside the inauguration, protesters clashed with police. One student demonstrator received a head wound and was in critical condition, the Mexican Red Cross said. [KTLA]

Supreme Court Delays Announcement on Gay Marriage

The Supreme Court took no action on Friday on a series of pending appeals involving gay marriage, putting off until at least next week a decision on which cases to hear. The justices met behind closed doors to debate cases involving the Defense of Marriage Act and California’sProp. 8, the voter initiative that limits marriage to a man and a woman. The court said only it had agreed to hear two new business cases. .It is not certain the court will want to decide the fate of Prop. 8. It was struck down last year by the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals on the grounds that California voters took away from gays and lesbians a right to marry they had won in the state courts. [KTLA]
