Excitement is building for the final journey of the space shuttle Endeavour on city streets from LAX to the California Science Center. Endeavour is scheduled to begin its 2-day, 12-mile trek from LAX to Exposition Park around 2:30 a.m. on Friday. It will crawl along the route at just 2 mph. City officials warn that the public should anticipate traffic delays on the route and in surrounding areas throughout Endeavour's last trip -- dubbed "Mission 26." Major streets including Manchester, Crenshaw and Martin Luther King Jr. boulevards will be periodically shut down to accommodate the 122-foot-long shuttle. Sidewalk closures along the route may be reopened based on street width, fixed obstacles and public safety issues on a block-by-block basis, the LAPD said. The shuttle will be on display at the science center starting on Oct. 30. [KTLA]

A man wearing a bulletproof-style vest was arrested at LAX after customs agents found a smoke grenade, knives and body bags in his luggage. Yongda Huang Harris, 28, had just arrived on a flight from Japan when he was referred for secondary inspection after customs officers noticed he was wearing what looked like a bulletproof vest and flame retardant pants. It turned out the bulletproof-style vest, in fact was a Chinese-made knockoff and not an actual ballistic vest, investigators said. According to Homeland Security, Harris' luggage contained a pyrotechnic smoke grenade, three leather-coated billy clubs, a collapsible baton, various knives and a hatchet. He also had a full-face respirator, body bags, a biohazard suit, handcuffs, duct tape, leg irons, oven mitts and cooking tongs. On Harris' laptop, investigators found Japanese fantasy rape writings, pornography and a copy of the "Poor Man's James Bond," a popular text among dissidents and anarchists that has exhaustive information on the use of terror tactic, according to ABC News. Harris is now charged in a criminal complaint with one count of transporting hazardous materials. The charge carries a maximum penalty of up to five years in prison. [KTLA]
